Kitesurfing Rhodes — Prasonisi Spot Guide 2026
Prasonisi is where two seas collide and the wind shows up like clockwork. We've sent riders there since the early 2000s, and if you're heading out May to October, you need the right kite in your bag.
Prasonisi delivers consistent afternoon thermals (12–25 knots) in a protected lagoon. Pack a 13–15 m² all-rounder—the Duotone Evo SLS or Rebel SLS handle the full wind range. Book May–September for steadiest conditions. Water temps run 18–24°C, so bring a 3/2 mm wetsuit.
01 — Thermal winds & seasonsWhy Prasonisi Wins
The wind funnel between the Mediterranean and Aegean creates one of Europe's most forgiving thermal spots. Every afternoon from May through October, sea-breeze heating builds steady 12–25 knot windows. You won't get crazy gusts—just steady power-up from flat to dialed in an hour.
Morning sessions are choppy and unpredictable. Afternoon is when it happens. Water stays 18–24°C across the season, so a 3/2 mm wetsuit covers you year-round. Most riders we've spoken to see their best sessions between 2 and 6 p.m.
02 — Reading the conditionsWhich Kite Size to Pack
A 13–15 m² kite is your anchor for Prasonisi. In the reliable 12–15 knot morph-up, a 15 m² sits neutral and forgiving. By mid-afternoon when thermals peak at 20–25 knots, you'll ride that 13 m² and stay in control. Don't bring a 17 m²—the spot doesn't demand it, and lighter winds early season will leave you swimming.
If you're under 70 kg and prefer early-morning flat water, a 12 m² floats you on thin days. If you're over 80 kg, start at 15 m² and add a 12 m² as backup for the windy days. One kite isn't enough—thermals shift daily.
