Kitesurfing Lanzarote — La Santa Spot Guide 2026
La Santa's been our home spot since 2003 — three zones, one bay, and trade winds that run 12–22 knots most of the year. Here's the kite size you actually need, which zone matches your level, and why we keep sending complete rigs back.
La Santa delivers consistent 12–22 knot trade winds across three distinct zones: flat lagoons for beginners (pack a 9–12 m² kite), freestyle banks for intermediates, and Atlantic swell for advanced riders. Water temps sit at 18–21°C, so bring a summer wetsuit. Pack an all-round freestyle kite like the Duotone Neo SLS if you're rotating zones in one trip.
01 — ConditionsWind and Water Year-Round
The trade winds here aren't seasonal luck — they're physics. From May through October, you're looking at 12 to 22 knots blowing consistent. Even November and December stay rideable; March and April can drop to 10–14 knots, but you'll still fly a 12 m² without drama.
Water temp doesn't swing wildly. Expect 18–21°C year-round. A 3/2 mm wetsuit handles most visitors fine; bring a 2/2 mm if you're heat-sensitive or dropping by in summer. The bay faces northeast, so Atlantic swells wrap in on the north side — flat water lives on the south and west zones.
02 — Spot breakdownThree Different Zones — Pick Your Vibe
The lagoon (south zone) is pure beginner territory. Water's sheltered, flat, and forgives mistakes. A 9–12 m² kite here is all you need; wind stays steady and thermals push it up as the sun climbs. If you're learning, start here.
Freestyle banks run along the middle. Shallow, choppy, and wind-channelled — intermediate riders thrive. A 9 or 12 m² works depending on the day; we usually see 14–20 knots holding steady. The Duotone Rebel SLS or Duotone Evo SLS shine here if you're solid on your tricks.
The Atlantic side (north) picks up swell and runs stronger wind. This is where advanced riders hunt waves. You'll want a 7–9 m² when it's loading, and you'll need wave experience. Not a first-day zone.

Frequently asked
Pack a 9 or 12 m². The lagoon runs 12–18 knots most days, so a 12 m² gives you margin in lighter hours. If you're confident, a 9 m² works when wind ticks up.
Yes. The freestyle banks are designed for progression. Shallow water, steady wind, and sand bottom mean falls don't hurt. Just pick the right zone for your tricks.
May through October offers the most consistent wind and warmest water. November–April still works but expect lighter days and cooler temps. Never a bad month, though.
Not essential. A 9 or 12 m² all-rounder like the Duotone Neo SLS handles all three zones. If you're staying two weeks, bring both sizes to match wind swings.
