Kitesurfing Hurghada Egypt — Red Sea Spot Guide 2026
Hurghada's been our riders' winter escape since the early 2000s—guaranteed flatwater, warm Red Sea winds, and zero winter blues. We've shipped dozens of kiteboarders there, and they all come back asking the same question: what kites do I actually need?
Pack a 9–13 m² quiver for Hurghada's steady 12–25 knot trade winds (April–October). The Duotone Evo SLS or Rebel SLS handle light-to-moderate gusts smoothly. Water stays warm (22–28°C), so bring a 3/2 mm wetsuit and serious sunscreen.
01 — Wind & WaterWhy Hurghada Works in 2026
Hurghada sits on the Red Sea's leeward side. Trade winds funnel directly into the bay almost daily, April through October, giving you 12–25 knots of steady breeze. Rarely gusty, rarely dead—that's roughly a 90% chance of riding on any given day.
The water's the real story. Flat lagoons inside the bay mean you're learning or progressing without chop. Temperature sits 22–28°C year-round, so a 3/2 mm wetsuit handles morning sessions; by midday you might ditch it entirely. No cold-water shock, no reef hazards inside the main bay.
02 — Quiver BreakdownWhat Kite Size to Pack
For Hurghada's 12–25 knot window, you want a 9 m² and a 12 m². That covers 95% of days. If you're heavier (75+ kg) or just cautious in light wind, add a 13 m².
A 9 m² comes alive at 14 knots and feels locked in at 18+. The 12 m² works 12–22 knots comfortably—it's your daily driver. Skip the 7 m² unless you're sub-60 kg and riding in July heat. You won't need anything bigger than 13 m².

Frequently asked
No. The main bay is beginner-friendly and well-marked. IKO schools operate there year-round if you want coaching, but solo riders thrive too. Water's flat and warm enough that most riders pick it up fast.
Yes, rental shops exist in the resort areas. But gear is often older, and sizing is hit-or-miss. Bring your own if you know what you want.
April–June or September–October. July–August is hot and windy (22–25 knots daily), which suits advanced riders but punishes beginners. December–March is mild but less consistent.
Bring your own twin-tip if you have one. Rentals exist, but a 140 cm board sized for your weight makes a huge difference. Most of our Hurghada riders use a single 140–145 cm all-around board.
