NeilPryde Combat 2026 — Wave Windsurf Sail Review
The NeilPryde Combat 2026 is the wave sail that rewards technique over power. Tighter profile, softer battens, quieter leech—built for the riders who chase variable swell at Cabarete, Pozo, and the Bay.
The Combat 2026 tightens the mid-section, softens the battens, and redesigns the head reinforcement for refined leech control and smoother tacking. It excels in 12–22 knots across 3.5–5.0 m². Pick it if you want confidence in choppy water and marginal wind—not raw power.
01 — Design & durabilityWhat Changed in 2026
NeilPryde tightened the mid-section profile, so the sail sits quieter and more locked-in when conditions turn choppy. You'll feel the difference immediately—less flutter in the leech, less noise when you're edging hard. The head reinforcement is redesigned too, which means smoother tacking and a sail that doesn't fight you on the way down.
The battens are softer than the 2025 model. That sounds counterintuitive, but it works: softer battens respond faster to pressure changes and keep the sail stable in lulls. In 14 knots one minute, 18 knots the next—the Combat tracks without drama. Durability is still there; we've shipped these sails across Europe since 2003, and NeilPryde's reinforcement at the boom and clew holds up to hard use.
02 — Wind & water conditionsWhen and Where the Combat Shines
This is a 12–22 knot sail. Below 12 knots, you'll be swimming. Above 22 knots, the quiet profile becomes a liability—you lose drive. But in that sweet spot? Unmatched. Wave riders from Tarifa to Cape Town tell us the Combat is their safety sail when swell is big and wind is fickle.
It excels across 3.5–5.0 m², covering most wave sessions in European winter and summer swell windows. If you're bouncing between a 4.5 and 5.0 m² in marginal conditions, buy the 4.5 and keep the 5.0 for pure wave days. The Combat's responsive character means smaller is often smarter.

Frequently asked
Start with your body weight and typical wind at your home break. For 65–75 kg in 15–18 knots, a 4.5 m² is standard. For lighter riders or lighter winds, go 5.0 m². Check the product page for full sizing guidance.
The Speedster is built for speed and range—it'll power through lighter wind. The Combat is quieter and more locked-in, designed for pure wave sailing. Pick the Speedster if you blend wave and freestyle; pick the Combat if you chase choppy swell.
Not really. The tight profile means it needs decent pressure. Below 12 knots, you'll feel underpowered. Grab a 5.0 m² or step up to the Atlas Pro Fuse if you're dealing with lighter wind.
If your 2025 Combat works, keep it. The leech quietness and batten response are refinements, not revolution. Upgrade if you're chasing better feel in marginal wind or coming from a different brand.
